Perseverance - Work Smarter.
If at first you don't suceed try ,try and try again until you do. I think the saying goes something like that. This is called perseverance and is a remarkable trait to have... BUT
It is is no good using the same method and expecting a different result. In other words if your method of study did not work for that test or assignment don't just think by doing more of the same thing will get better I promise they won't. Be a discerning student , analyse and reflect honestly on why you did not do as well as you hoped and then make the changes. Then try again. This is what I call working smarter.
Too often students just accept their marks and don't question and analyse them. By questioning I don't mean challenging your teachers but questioning your own answers.
So be a discerning student and work smarter.
I hope you all enjoy sports day.

Inspiration and reflection.
The chapel themes this term are just so appropriate ! I hope that you are taking heed of all the advice that you are being given.
It is amazing how in life whatever you put in you are sure to get out. Sometimes we work so hard ,plan, sacrifice and think we have given it our all, and yet after all of this we still don't make it. I would really be a very rich person if I had got a rand everytime a student had told me how they had tried their best and worked really hard and yet they still did not pass or reach their goal.
This is where the lesson of the day comes in how honest are you being with yourself and me when you tell me that you have given it your all ! You need to really take a good hard look at your methods and your commitment. Did you really give it your all ?How many short cuts did you take? How much messing around did you do? Reflect on these things and try to do better next time. Be honest with yourself.
Trying again and doing better requires peserverance and this is what we will talk about next. Any ideas and advice from you all. Let me know and lets share ideas.
Are you on top of your work this week. What about CASS on Friday. Don't lose sight of your goals.

Discipline
I hope the quote that Rev Susan used in chapel this morning about discipline being the bridge that turns goals into reality really made an impression on you. I am not sure if those were the exact words but I am sure I have the gist. It does not matter how many goals you set if you do not have a plan of action you will never reach them. A plan of action always requires effort and hard work - this is where the discipline comes in. If you commit to a plan do not let anything get in the way of it. Once you put off doing something in your plan once, the second time will be so much easier and the next time you will not even bother to make an excuse you just won't do it. Self discipline requires hard work and perserverance and practice. Practice it everyday.
I hope your inter house activities are going well -next week our Mand E sessions start in earnest.

Term 2
I noticed that no one has read or commented on the blog I posted in February.
I hope that you all had a good holiday. This term is going to be very hectic as it is so short and there is lots going on at Inanda as usual. I am sure you realise that you need to get down to work without delay and good planning is going to be the key to success.
I am looking forward to seeing all your marks - I have had many 'visitors' during this week telling me their good news stories. I hope to hear many more at our meetings during next week.
Our first meeting together will be a one to one session in which we will discuss your marks.
I would also like you to give some thought about what you would like to cover in the rest of the meetings this term. Mrs Williams and Mrs Hayhurst conducted an extra maths session for the grade 11 and 12's today. It looked like they were all working very hard - I would like to hear all about it!
See you all during the week. Hope to hear from some of you.
